The Woods and Stream

Along the edge of the field is a little stream and a footpath that leads over a bridge (or a log if you are feeling brave!) into a small wooded area.

If you follow this path you will eventually come to Sunningdale High Street.

 

Refreshments

There is a small refreshments kiosk with a sheltered picnic area and various seating areas scattered around the grounds.

 

The Library

A container library visits ons one days during the week.

The Play Areas

The Pond

Behind the play area is a picturesque pond covered with ducks, swans, gulls and coots.

 

 

 

 

Go Wild

Sandhurst Memorial Park also has some wild areas. In the corner is Seeby’s Copse, an area of ancient woodland, and at one end is Shepherd Meadows, a beautiful nature reserve with fields full of wild flowers and butterflies as well as the River Blackwater.

To find the reserve, take the path to the left of the play area and follow it past the pond, where you will pick up signs to the reserve.

 

 

Pick a Car Park

There are two car parks. The first is next to the play area (GU47 9BJ).

The second is on Marshall Road (GU47 0FJ will take you past the car park, which is on the opposite side of the road than the residential houses). This is the car park for Shepherd Meadows and it is about a twenty minute walk to the play area.

Pirate Ship Play Area

The pirate ship multiplay has a slide, a hammock, a cargo net, a climbing wall and easy to climb steps. 

Next to it is a water play area with wheels, chutes and a water pump. 

There is also a wide slide with a ramp, a spinning disc and a rock pile and basket swing.

Adventure Play Area

The adventure play area has the following equipment:

• a tube slide and wooden climbing frame with a climbing wall, a ladder, a fireman’s pole and easy to climb stairs

The Cafe

Next to the play area is Jacksons cafe and also a kiosk.

The Paddling Pool

California Country Park has a paddling pool you pay to use.  This is only open during the summer.

At the time of writing it was £2.90 for anyone entering the water and £1.20 for adults going in to supervise but not swim.  

California Country Park

As well as the adventure play area, Calirfornia Country Park has four main areas – Longmoor Lake, heathland, woodland and Longmoor Bog, an 8,000 year old mire accessible by boardwalk.

The Walks

The park map suggests different  walks that take you around the lake, through some woodland or over a small boardwalk. 

Scooters and Bikes

We often take bikes and scooters on a twenty minute, circular route around the lake.   This route is surfaced and starts and finishes at the adventure play area.

The Ascot Heath Children’s Play Area

There is plenty to spot around the racecourse, including a helipad, the enormous grandstand and the huge fences that the horses jump. 

 

 

 

 

The Underpass

To find the play area, head through the underpass tunnel and up onto Ascot Heath.

Go straight across the heath and the play area is on the right opposite the Grandstand.

Dickie’s Pond is also nearby and has a pond dipping platform.

Pond dipping equipment (nets, information sheets, a tray and magnifying glasses) can be borrowed from the cafe by leaving a deposit of £5. Near the pond is a woodland walk, with sculptures of woodland animals.

Swinley Forest

The play area is next to the Swinley Forest, with cycle routes and various trails.

The Look Out also has a permanent orienteering course and you can buy a map from the reception desk in the Discovery Centre for £1.

The Look Out Discovery Centre

Inside The Look Out Discovery Centre are over 90 activities including a huge marble run, a building site, an indoor stream, a reaction testing game and a range of hands-on science experiments, including a hot air balloon to launch and a globe that floats in mid-air.

• an Olympic Legacy wall that you can take a time trial challenge on. This wall is an obstacle course with things like a climbing wall, monkey bars, and a trapeze

Meet the animals, including alpacas, ring-tailed lemurs, owls, wallabies and deer, which are scattered around the park.

The Miniature Railway

Ride the miniature railway around the park, past enclosures of animals from different parts of the world like New Zealand, Australasia and South America.

Locks Ride Splash Pad

The splash pad has jets of water and overhead buckets that gradually fill with water and then suddenly spill down onto the people below.

The Beach

The beach area has hammocks, picnic tables and barbecues that can be pre-booked. There is also a cafe and toilets.

It is often very busy during hot weather.

The paddling pool looked shallow and inviting when we arrived but unfortunately it had not yet opened for the day (it currently opens from 10am until 6pm).

 

 

Paddling Pool Restrictions

There are some restrictions on the use of the paddling pool – only children up to and including 8 years are allowed to use it before 5pm. The sign also says that children using the pool must be toilet trained. It did not say anything about children in swimming nappies.

 

Coffee Shop and Facilities

Next to it was a coffee shop that sells refreshments and has toilets. It opens during the weekends and school holidays.

There are lots of sports facilities including tennis courts (you can hire these at the cafe), table tennis, netball courts, cricket pitch, football pitches, a five-a-side football pitch, a kick about area, table tennis and multi-use ball courts.

There are some restrictions on the use of the splash pad – only children under 8 years are allowed to use it before 5pm and there are no balls or inflatable toys allowed.

You must wear swimming suits and swimming nappies (if necessary).

There are tennis courts, a five-a-side football pitch, a kick about area, table tennis and a sports field.

There is also a miniature golf course, a walk to Jocks Copse and Tinkers Copse and a miniature railway that is run by the Bracknell Railway Society.

The Toddler Play Area

The toddler play area is water themed with a boat-like multi-play, a frog-studded climbing wall, a slide with splash marks at the bottom and starfish, a crab and a fish painted on the floor.

 

 

This area is for children aged 2 to 7 years old and has:

• toddler swings
• a multiplay unit with a slide, a climbing wall and ladder
• a roundabout.

 

 

The Junior Play Area

The junior play area is not enclosed, is for children aged 7 to 14 years and includes:

• a basket swing
• a spinner
• a climbing frame zip wire
• a rodeo board (a balancing game).

 

 

There is also a a large BMX/skate park and a picnic area with tables.
